Affiliate Disclosure

How we make money — and how we keep the content honest regardless.

Last updated: 20 April 2026

The Short Version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up, subscribe, or make a purchase, we may earn a commission — at no extra cost to you. Every single affiliate link on this site carries rel="sponsored nofollow" so search engines and your browser know.

Why We Disclose This

South African consumer protection law, the FTC (for any US audience), Amazon's terms, and our own ethics all require transparency. More importantly, you deserve to know how a site you're reading makes its money.

Affiliate Programmes We Participate In

We may earn commission from (but are not limited to):

  • Amazon Associates — up to 10% on qualifying purchases
  • Shopify Partners — per qualified merchant signup
  • Takealot Affiliates — 2–5% on qualifying purchases
  • Fiverr Affiliates — per qualified first-time buyer
  • Preply Partners — per qualified tutor or student signup
  • italki Affiliate Program — commission on referred student spend
  • Luno & VALR — referral commissions
  • Wise Referral Program — per qualified referral
  • Canva Affiliate — per paid signup

Our Editorial Independence Rules

These are the rules we apply to every article:

  1. We only recommend platforms we'd use ourselves. Just because a platform offers the biggest commission doesn't mean it gets recommended. If we think something is a bad deal for readers, we say so — even if we're leaving commission on the table.
  2. Negative coverage is allowed. Our article honestly critiquing eToro's fees is a good example. Editorial > revenue.
  3. No sponsored “reviews” disguised as editorial. If a brand ever pays us for coverage (we don't currently accept this), it will be clearly marked as “Sponsored”.
  4. We're not obligated to anyone. We can drop or add affiliate programmes at any time. Our recommendations don't change based on who pays more.

How to Tell Affiliate Links Apart

Affiliate links have the rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" attribute. Your browser's developer tools or right-click “Inspect” will show you which links are affiliate. We don't disguise them.

What If You Want to Support Us Without Using Affiliate Links?

Totally fine — just visit the platforms directly instead of clicking our links. The content is free and always will be. Sharing our articles on WhatsApp, social media, or with friends who'd find them useful helps us more than most clicks anyway.
